Children's Home was Brighter
Future's first project.
It was opened in 2004 to offer the
children of leprosy sufferers, orphans, homeless children found
begging on railway stations and others in need, a secure home
among loving carers.
Brighter
Future engaged a house mother and a cook.
We rented private houses but as the leases ran out, we often had
to change home and sometimes change school – unsettling
for young children.
They had to learn how to live together.
Next, we engaged a tutor to teach them basic letters and numbers
and how to write their names. We soon had thirteen children in
our care and the numbers grew every month.
These children are from leprosy
colonies and they knew only begging with their parents or were
left with relations or friends, while the parents went to far
off towns to get more money. Until Brighter
Future intervened, most had never been
to school.
